Housing Development

In poll after poll residents across the state discuss how expensive it is to live in Massachusetts. The CDC is taking giant steps to help meet the needs for quality affordable housing in Fitchburg and Leominster.

Projects Under Development

The largest project under development is the redevelopment of 470 Main Street, from a nearly vacant five story building into the centerpiece of a new downtown Fitchburg. When completed we will create 31 new apartments, a new small business center and homeownership center, brand new offices for the CDC on Main Street, and continued us of the building as TD Banknorth’s offices in Fitchburg. We are in the process of lining up our financing. We appreciate the help of the City of Fitchburg, Neighborworks America, the Department of Housing and Community Development and Congressman John Olver, who have helped us secure the key early financing for this project.

The CDC is also undertaking our first projects ever in Leominster. At 125 Tisdale Street we are currently in the process of selling this home to an income eligible first-time homebuyer. Please go to our home page for more information on this great opportunity.

Our second Leominster project that is just underway is on Roundhouse Road. Located at the Leominster Fitchburg line we are working with the Leominster Technical School to create another affordable housing unit in Leominster.

We continue to look for other development opportunities. So if you know of a project on which the CDC could work, please give us a call.

Completed Projects

Highland/Myrtle: As part of our effort to help revitalize the downtown neighborhoods, we purchased and developed two affordable single family homes on Highland and Myrtle Avenues.

Plymouth Street Initiative

Orchard Street - After

This project created six single family homes and two two-family homes, all of which were affordable. The Plymouth Street Initiative helped spark a revitalization of the entire Cleghorn Neighborhood. Special Thanks to our key partners, the City of Fitchburg, Bovenzi, Inc. Until, and the residents of Cleghorn for making this ambitious project work.

Cleghorn Stabilization Project: As we revitalized Plymouth Street, we also stabilized this neighborhood as well by renovating 27 family units of housing in the area. Our newly renovated apartments have been full since the completion of the project. We couldn’t have done this project without the help from Department of Housing and Community Development, the City of Fitchburg, Bovenzi, Inc. Unitil, and the Massachusetts Innovation Center.
